I'm definitely a hoarder, I mean, collector, of tools. Just this morning I was performing surgery on my 3D printer to allow it to print in four colors, and I had to think about which set -- out of my 12 sets -- of screwdrivers I was going to use. A decent drill is still a must-have in my opinion, especially one that can do triple duty -- drill into wood and metal, hammer drill into concrete, and also drive screwdriver bits. I prefer cordless tools not only because they are more convenient, but also because I won't trip and fall over the cord.These come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but for DIY use, I prefer to have a rechargeable headlamp or one that clips onto my baseball cap. Also: The cheap keychain tool I never leave home without (and why it's so great)I use them not only to cut wire but also to chomp through small bolts, nibble through metal, and gnaw through screws. They experience a very hard life. Therefore, these parts need to be user-replaceable. Otherwise, I'd be replacing or warranting the tool each time the cutters get mangled. Cutters on my Leatherman multitool mangled after a few years of hard work.

In my view, MCP suffers from two major flaws: It isn’t truly composable. Most composition happens through inference. It demands too much context. You must supply significant upfront input, and every tool invocation consumes even more context than simply writing and running code. A quick experiment makes this clear: try completing a GitHub task with the GitHub MCP, then repeat it with the gh CLI tool. You'll almost certainly find the latter uses context far more efficiently and you get to your intended results quicker. I want to address some of the feedback I've received on my stance on this.Another one is that I need to look at the world of the future, where models will be able to reach many more tools and handle much more complex tasks. My current take is that my data indicates that current MCP will always be harder to use than writing code, primarily due to the reliance on inference.I can run and debug a script, I cannot even figure out how to reliably do MCP calls. It's always a gamble and incredibly hard to debug. I love using the little tools that Claude Code generates while generating code.
